daily eats + first #shakeology

Happy Wednesday everyone! So after over a week of the challenge, I am ready for new things. I promise to share new eats and recipes but for now, Im done taking pictures of everything I eat. haha (these are pictures from the beginning of the week)

That being said, I did food prep for the two shifts I worked today and tomorrow. I made stew in the crockpot, and also homemade almond butter.

I also tried my first ever shakeology protein drink.

I used vanilla protein powder and made a pumpkin pie drink. It was pretty good, but a little sweet. They come in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and greenberry. I ordered the sample that is one of each flavor. After i try all of them, i will decide if i will spend the Big Bucks for more haha

Andrew and I also had a healthy snack before doing homework

My new goal is to get more sleep. I have not been getting even 7 hours, and we all know hoe cranky i can be otherwise haha.

Question for you:

Have you ever tried shakeology?

What is your favorite protein drink?

day 9: new deliveries

Today was my third 12 hour shift in a row! Apparently I was alittle sleep deprived because I posted day 7 before day 5 of my posts, but oh well! at least they got there haha.

The day actually started really early. LIke 4am early. I was laying in bed wide awake ready to seize the day. I was going to just roll over and go back to bed, but by 415 I was still up. So I hopped out of bed to start T25 gamma. (I swear one of these days I will do a review).

This is one of my newest deliveries! I was unsure after alpha and beta if I wanted to spend the extra money, but I realized I was doing this for me! It was about $60 and lasts 8 weeks. Money well spent 🙂

The dvds are made up of 4 different workouts. There is the gamma pure and the gamma strength (each 4 weeks).

I started with the strength and went with the Rip’t workout. (was supposed to be speed 3.0 and I knew I wouldn’t be moving that fast that early in the morning haha) The workout was great! lots of arms and they felt like jelly by the end. I used 10lb weights 🙂

Next up was a quick shower. My eats were about the same for this shift as the rest, but still delicious.

5:30 Eggs and peppers

10:00 bacon, cashews and pecans

12:00 Protein coffee

2:00 baked chicken wings, cauliflower mashed potatoes, M&m cookie and small piece of zucchini cake

5:00 colby cheese + apple

The other delivery to my house was Udo’s Choice Probiotics. I used these for the past two months and ran out! They really helped my tummy get things together. and I had less pain and bloating with this. (of course, also with a healthy diet).

I highly recommend probiotics, even those of you who might not have the same symptoms as I do.

So a few fun deliveries this week, besides the bills and ads haha. I love getting to try new things, and when you receive that package its like christmas morning, even if you know whats inside 🙂

Question for you:

What was the last package you ordered/received?

Do you like to buy online or at the store?

Post 12 hour workout

I am still not really sure how I did it, but I did my 3 dvds after a 12 hour shift. Luckily, the 12 hour shift was a pretty good day. I also am SO thankful to have Angela during this journey. To have someone to vent to, or even to get motivation from is HUGE for me! As soon as I was done, I sent her a text message haha

My NICU shirt 🙂

Another reason I got this completed, was as soon as I got home, I got changed right away and started. I knew that even if I walked around the house, I would have found things to do or even clean before starting my workout. But I got it done! 3 ten minute dvds and done!

Now it is time for bed, before work tomorrow. Hoping for the motivation to do another workout then as well 🙂

Question for you:

When do you find time to workout?

Would you rather workout in the morning or night?

-I would much rather get the workout done right away!

What I Ate Wednesday: 12 hour shift part 2

Another week of great eats, another What I Ate Wednesday 🙂 Unfortunately, I have been working so much, my camera hasn’t captured much. BUT I do have another 12 hour shift to share with you!

Breakfast: Protein Pancake 1 scoop protein powder, 2 egg, 1/2 c pumpkin, 1tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp baking powder

Snack at work: Bacon (made at home) and 1/2 morning glory muffin + almond butter. With some coffee 🙂

Lunch: baked chicken wings + cauliflower mashed potatoes

Dessert: 1/2 morning glory muffin

Snack: cashews

I also brought cucumbers, carrots, and some pumpkin seeds for fast snacks if the day is crazy

Always having a bag packed keeps me away from the treats. And trust me they are EVERYWHERE during a 12 hour shift at the hospital

Question for you:

What snacks do you keep handy in case you need something quick?

What I ate Wednesday: 12 hour shift

This week has defiantly been interesting. As of Wednesday, I have worked five 12 hour shifts in a row. I knew that i needed to be prepared for those few days, if I wanted to stay away from the junk food at work.

I first started off with a crockpot of stew

Look at the sweet potato my aunt grew in her garden!

I also had leftover sausage, potato, and peppers baked in the over, and a rotisserie chicken from Sam’s. I have a few different things each week so I don’t get bored and eat the junk.

So this is how a 12 hour shift of food goes…….

Breakfast: Made at home. This week has been big on protein pancakes.

And they keep me full till 10:30! At that time, I have bacon (made at home), a mini morning glory muffin + almond butter

Around noon I usually have some cashews

2pm Is lunch time in the NICU world. I also have cucumbers, and dates for dessert

5pm another mini glory muffin OR apple with almond butter

8pm A small dinner. Basically something different than lunch. I have to keep it different!

This it is time to pack up for the next day, and hit the hay

Question for you:

What is the longest shift/day you have ever worked?

-I had a rough day in the NICU and didn’t end up leaving till almost 10. (usually leave at 7:30!)

Weekly Workouts: Balanced Life

What an interesting week.….. Lots of working, and not a whole lot of working out. Darn 12 hour shifts

BUT I did have a lot of fun. FIrst, with hula hoops, grocery shopping and time with my neice and nephew, and of course the Halloween Party.

I have been trying to find a balance between life, work, and Andrew. It is not always easy. And this week was no different. Luckily, I kept my food under check thanks to sparkspeople.com and I didn’t gain any weight.

Sunday: no workout

Monday: 12 hour shift

Tuesday: 12 hour shift

Wednesday: no workout 😦

Thursday: 30  min ellptical + strength workout

Friday: no workout  😦

Saturday: 12 hour shift + 30 min elliptical

Goals this week: Plan workouts and stick to them. Even if they are the dreaded workouts at home. I would rather be at the gym 🙂

Question for you:

What workout did you do this week?

How do you fit workouts in to a busy schedule?

Meal preparation

Today was the day, to get prepared for the days ahead. I work the next 3 out of 4 days, 12 hour shifts. Which means I have to have food ready and handy, because when I get home at 8pm, it isn’t going to happen.

I usually make two types of meat (steaks, meatballs, burgers), a few vegetables, and of course…morning glory muffins.

I know I talk about the muffins constantly, but as a nurse you don’t always have 30, 20, or even 10 minutes to eat. I need something that I can grab and go, but gives me energy for hours. (unlike the candy bowl in the dieticians office that only gives me energy for about 10, and then I fall even harder when my sugar drops. no.good.)

So for the next few days, I made what was already on hand (I hate wasting food)

I had the oven going for a few hours, but I got everything cooked and ready to go. First up, was morning glory muffins

Then I baked some potatoes and zucchini with some olive oil, and baked an acorn squash

All ready to go for the next couple of days!

I know that if I have healthy food handy, I don’t turn to the cookies and ice cream that can be around. One day I should do a blog about the crap junk food that I see just in ONE 12 hour shift.

Question for you:

Do you make your lunch to take with you to work/school/run errands?

what is your quick and easy snack?

-I also bring cashews with me and an apple/pear
