Weekend Adventures (photo overload)

After a busy, but fun weekend, it is time for an update.

Saturday started with delicious pancakes

Andrew and I then picked up my mom and we headed to the Gap. Great sales this weekend! And I bought some fall/winter clothes 🙂 Andrews new kicks

While Andrew had a friend to play, I painted the garage door the final color.

It looks so much better

Andrew spent the night at a friends.  I worked on house projects and watched divergent. A nice little night,  and a good movie.

Sunday started with a not friendly visitor

He scared me when I came in and he was staring in the window haha

My new tshirt!

after finished t25, I have lost 15lbs. So I sent in my stats and pics and got this shirt! I wore it with pride

now to lose 20 more….

Andrew and I made our own applesauce after church

And then we went on a bike ride with the family. It was the perfect day.

Now to begin a great week, plans to come….

Question for you:

What did you do this weekend?

First Bike Ride after Surgery

Andrew and I went on amazing bike ride this weekend. Know why it was so awesome? It was sunny, warm, and I was OUT of the house!

I have not been out for a bike ride since before the surgery. I have missed being out of the house and getting exercise at the same time.

We rode around the neighborhood for a few miles, then rode to have lunch with my cousin. We sat on the patio and had a nice lunch. All in all we rode a little over 5 miles. Afterwards, I was pretty tired, but it felt so great to get outside and moving!

It was a perfect Saturday 🙂

Question for you:

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

-for me, it is swimming (or just the beach haha)

That time again?

After a quick workout at the gym (my tuesday class that I love), it was time AGAIN for groceries. Can you believe it?

Veggies: cauliflower, pumpkin, avocado, sweet potato, carrots, and peppers

Dairy: milk and yogurt (for andrew) butter, and whipping cream

I FOUND THE BUTTER AT THE GROCERY STORE! I didn’t have to travel all the the way to Trader Joe’s

Eggs for 88cent! So excited about that

Then I found this chocolate that I hope to bake with.

It is WAY too strong (is that the right word?) for me

Then more painting, and to get Andrew who had a 1/2 day! So we hit the road to my favorite trail for a bike ride

We ended up going 5 miles, and going by some pretty amazing horses.

Question for you:

Who does the grocery shopping in your family?

Balloon Race 2013

Each year, in Forest Park, there is a huge event involving hot air balloons (I mean you can’t get any cooler than that, right?!?!)
My family usually goes to the balloon glow on Friday night (this was last year) But this year, the rain was just not having it, so instead we went to the race. We drove and then my mom, nephew, Andrew, and I rode our bikes into the park

It was a bit windy, so the energizer bunny didn’t take off, but alot of balloons did race!

So here is how it goes. The first balloon (usually the bunny. but this year was the red balloon) takes off about ten minutes before the others.

He floats away gracefully…..
(of course there is WAY more that goes into it than that)

But anywho, after floating, the man actually “driving” the balloon drops a bag to the ground. The other balloons follow suit and try and get as close as they can to the first dropped bag.
I believe the whole race is for bragging rights, and its more about luck than skill (so someone told me, but I’m sure there is a TON of skill involved. I won’t be “driving” a balloon anytime soon. haha)

We had a blast! And if you are in St Louis for next years race and balloon glow. you should head to Forest Park!

Question for you:
Have you ever been in a a hot air balloon

Weekly Workouts

A little more low key this week, but I will say I am happy I was still active and movin’!

Sunday: Rest

Monday: 40 min elliptical (after an “easy” 12 hr shift)

Tuesday: Rest

Wednesday: 10 mile bike ride

Thursday: 3 mile run (more on that later) and an 8 mile bike ride

Friday: 3 mile bike ride. not long at all, but before a two hr car ride home 😦

Saturday: Rest

We had a great trip, and I loved that my family was so interested in getting those bike rides in! They were not long, but unfortuantly the trail was only 1.5 miles one way. But we made the best of it!

Question for you:

What is one active thing you did this week?

Do you plan rest days?

Last vacation to see Sam

Ok. Sam is not really a person I know (although my mom said a biillion times that this is her favorite place in the world)

Sam is actually Sam A Baker State Park. It is about a two hour car ride from St Louis, and is probably the closest I get to camping each year haha

We started the day by following this…. All our bikes ready to go!

My partners for the ride

P1070765b P1070766(my son and nephew)

After unpacking (in record time) we headed out for a bike ride!

It felt great to move our legs! And I needed it because I had to pull over 100lbs behind me!!!

(Andrew. you must learn to ride your bike. -love mom)

We also went down to the river, which seemed alittle high but nothing crazy with all the flooding lately

The boys were taking all kinds of pictures together

Before we knew it, it was time for dinner and a bonfire!

More to  come on Monday!

-We stay in a cabin at night, but rough it during the day haha

Sweet and salty

After four 12 hour shifts, and not sleeping because of the break in, I was SOOOOO excited to sleep in till 9am. Can you imagine when I used to sleep in till noon. Those days seem so long ago…..

Then it was time for breakfast and a long bike ride!

First, I had to take my guard dog home

It felt great to get outside, and even though my legs were super tired, I was so happy to have a day off

The rest of the day was all about relaxing, and then Andrew was home!

He has been gone for the past few days with his dad, and I have greatly missed him.

Now its time for some popcorn, wine, and Harry Potter 🙂

Question for you:

What is one thing you do to relax?

Weekly workouts

This week had workouts from Michigan, to the gym to the tennis courts. If you ask me, this is how I LOVE to keep moving. I can’t do the same thing everyday. I get bored. Then I stop working out. (doesn’t help the weight lose!)

  • Sunday:  28 mile bike ride to the Cherry Hut
  • Monday: Tennis and small bike ride with Andrew
  • Tuesday:  2000 yard swim (after a 10hr car ride)
  • Wednesday: rest day
  • Thursday: 40 min elliptical (after a 12 hr shift)
  • Friday: rest
  • Saturday: 40 min elliptical, weights, and then an hour of tennis with Andrew

Weights on Saturday included:

  • Repeat x3
  1. 20 Squats with kettlebell swings
  2. Seated ab twists (to both sides. 25 each side)
  3. Lying Adduction leg lifts (25 each leg)
  4. Tricep dips

I was really happy with this weeks workouts. Especially on vacation, when I seem to be alittle TOO laid back. but we were active in the morning, and then relaxed the rest of the day. It was perfect.

Question for you:
What was your favorite workout this weekend?

How many “rest days” do you have each week? or do you not keep track?

-I don’t 🙂

Michigan: activities

Since yesterdays post was all about food, I thought I would talk about the fun stuff we did in Michigan. We actually stayed REALLY active, between tennis, bike riding, and of course beach time haha

After breakfast, we would usually head over to the tennis courts with my cousin and her boyfriend

Andrew got a new racket for his birthday, and we have been playing about once a week at home. My aunt and cousin love to play, and it was alot of fun!

We also took a few bike rides.

Andrew is still working on riding by himself, but going on a 28 mile bike ride was tough pulling him behind me.

He loved it, and started getting the whole mechanics of balancing and pedaling.

We were like a biker gang heading to the cherry hut haha

P1070590b P1070592b

Another activity would have to be monopoly.

Andrew would go around the house asking ANYONE to play with him

beach and bike post coming up later….

Question for you:

Would you rather swim, bike, or run? or play tennis?

– I would rather swim, bike, tennis, then run. Actually after our 10 hour drive home, I went to the pool and swam 2000 yards! It felt amazing! especially after being in the car so long

What is your favorite board/card game?

-I love to play nerts! Has anyone else played that before?

Sweat + dirt + more sweat

I am not really sure what has gotten into me. After, a much needed, break down a week ago to my cousin, I have started to really get back in the swing of things. Eating healthy and working out. Also, I am getting more sleep and trying to relax (bring on the zen! haha)

Well, today I woke up and headed to the gym. I wanted to take my typical tuesday class, unfortuantly it wasn’t till 10. OH well. I still did some weights and the elliptical.   Which is my new best friend!

After that, my dad and I went on a bike ride. We got him a new bike for Christmas, and after taking him to get fitted yesterday, it was time to get going!.

I love that our family is becoming more active!

Then you insert three hours of yard work in 90 degree weather

I swear I got sweaty. sweaty. then sweaty and dirty haha

It was nassstttyyy. But I KNOW I am going to feel it tomorrow! Now it is time to hit the hay! NIGHT~!

Question for you:
How is your summer going?

What is something active you have done lately?
