A year ago, and today

I was just looking back on the good o’ blog. Last year, I was visiting my cousin in CHicago

and buying lots of stuff at IKEA! I want to go back!!! haha

~~~
This year, I am deciding what to give up for Lent. The other day at work, my friend Denise and I were having a slow day in the NICU.
This conversation really happened:
  •  “What should I give up for Lent” me
  • “A$$holes” denise
  •  “I think that is more of a LIFETIME goal, not a goal just for the next 40 days. But I’ll see what I can do” me
haha. This made me laugh, because more things having been coming out about Chris, and how he wasn’t treating me w/ the respect that I deserve.  (that text message, lead to the end of our relationship) working w/ mostly women…well we tend to talk about things haha. Apparently, now it is the goal of several NICU nurses to find me a nice guy 🙂
SOOOO back to Lent. I wanted to do something that was good for me and Andrew. Healthy and Happy.
#1 We are going to eat as CLOSE to Paleo as we can. Hence all the great and fresh foods we bought today at Trader Joe’s
This means: no candy at work (which I have been REALLY bad at), no ice cream, and decreasing the amount of coffee
Today ALL I WANTED was a gas station coffee today, but I resisted.
I am giving myself one cheat meal a week. I know that this week I am hanging out w/ the girls in the NICU, and then I have a wedding coming up as well. So I don’t want to miss out on enjoying the food. And I don’t want to beat myself up if I have an “off” day. So we will see how it goes! I plan on posting more of what I eat, so you guys can keep me on track. AND PLEASE DO!
#2 I am only going to be on the computer when Andrew isn’t here or when he is asleep.
 I noticed today I was on the computer WAY TO MUCH. And it wasn’t even productive. Ok. I was looking at blogs haha
But I want to give him more attention, because soon he is going to be old and not wanting to hang out w/ his old mom 🙂
Question for you:
Are you giving up/trying anything for Lent?
What were you doing a year ago?
whirlwind trip to chicago
This past weekend, I was invited to visit my cousin, Jill,  in Chicago. My other cousins were going up there for a quick trip and I was pondering whether or not to go.
(yep. I was there just two weeks ago. And we had major car problems)
I knew I had a million things to do at home. Well there were several reasons why I should stay home. But my mom said, “Kristen. Are you going to remember a weekend you spent at home getting things done. Or a weekend with your cousins”
I realized I needed to live life! And have some gosh darn fun haha.
Andrew was at his dad’s house celebrating Christmas, so off to Chicago I went!
My older cousin, Erin, left at 6am, while My cousin Maggie and I took the Megabus that left at noon. The trip actually went by really fast
. I worked on all my christmas cards, which will have this picture on the front of me and Andrew.
We got in town around 5:45. Jill and Erin came and picked us up at the bus stop. And then it was to her house to get ready, eat a ton of popcorn, and head out for dinner and drinks!
We obviously had a blast!
After dinner, we headed to The Irish Oak. Which is the perfect little irish pub, but also plays so good dancing music if I do say so myself haha.
We also got a picture w/ the bouncer who bought us a shot…
And glow sticks. Like I said- An Awesome bar! haha
After a LATE night out on the town w/ lots of dancing and drinking. We might have slept in till 11 and had the tylenol bottle handy……
We did eventually make it to get pizza and downtown for shopping! We even found some pretty awesome legos and took several pictures for andrew
Found a new friend! (notice my AWESOME boots! haha)
Around 5pm, it was time to head home. So Erin and I loaded up the car and headed out. Maggie was lucky to stay till monday.
We didn’t get home till 11:15, and we were both exhausted. But it was amazing trip and we did so much in such a short amount of time! I am so glad I went, even though Monday was a little rough! haha
Question for you:
How do you travel? Bus? train? Plane? Car?
– I love car rides (esp if I drive)
Heading home…or so we thought
Our last and final day in chicago, was alittle more low key.
We started w/ breakfast at Nookies. I was so hungry after my solo 3 mile run, so no pictures. 😦
But here are pictures of us heading into the city
Like I said before, I love this city
Yep. I was the driver!
After breakfast, packing the car, and many goodbyes, we headed to IKEA!!! One of my favorite places in the world! haha
We obviously got A TON of stuff. I mean there were five women shopping at a pretty awesome place.
We were pretty packed. We grabbed some coffee at Panera (another favorite place) and got on the road about 3. Well our car had different plans.
We were not far from IKEA when I heard this noise. Just once. Lasting about 5 seconds. THe others didn’t hear it. (they said it was my aunt’s strawl haha) But then in happened again. And again. I then decided to get out of the fast lane, and that is when our car decided to shut off. I was lucky to glide easily off the highway, onto the shoulder. And the car would not restart!
We sat there till 430 waiting for the tow truck. It was defiantly an experience I will never forget
We wasted a few hours in Joliet Illinois. First at the TGIFridays and then at the different stores before the night in shining armor my dad arrived.
The van was towed to a shop, so we took the car and moved almost everything over to take back to st louis. We were leaving the van in Joliet to get fixed, and we were heading HOME!!!!!
I have never been so excited to see St Louis in my life! We got home around 2, and in bed at 3. Instant face plant into pillow
Even though it was not planned, I defiantly went with the flow and tried to make people laugh. (which is hard for me. Im a BIG planner and usually get stressed when things don’t go according “to plan”?
But Really, what else can you do in a stressful situation like that, but laugh and have fun!
Question for you:
Ever had car trouble?
-this was actually the first time I was ever towed- thank goodness for AAA!
Chicago Day Two
If you missed the first day of chicago, check it out here!
The day started early on Saturday, with a trip on the bus
to have breakfast at the top of the Hancock Building.
We had a beautiful view!
And great company! I defiantly recomment doing this when you visit chicago. Just get there at 11 when they open or make reservations!
After our bellies were full. We walked around downtown. I absolutely LOVE chicago
We visited the bean!
Which is right by the skating rink
Across the street, was the cultural center. It is gorgeous!
Which was getting all set up for a holiday party.
 Wouldnt this be beautiful for a wedding reception?
 The girls w/ grandma inside the cultual building
Maybe Ill get married here first…haha
After a lasagna dinner, it was time for the blue man group!
(yep. I got my picture w/ ablue man!)
If you havent seen them, its a must! So weird and crazy, but so good at the same time haha
Then it was time to head home and relax!
My mom also made a new friend- Meet Louie my cousin’s dog
Question for you:
How was your day?
Have you ever been to the places above?
Shedd’s aquarium
After arriving in style in Chicago on Friday, it was time to hit the ground running!
We headed straight to Shedd’s aquarium. Luckily, I packed breakfast and snacks (yogurt, granola, hummus, carrots, cucumbers, and pecans) on the train and wasn’t hungry.
The aquarium was absolutely amazing! Just take a look at the pictures!!!
  sea turtle!
 sea horse
 JELLIES!!!! (said in Finding Nemo voice!)
  after 6 hours in a train and two hours at the aquarium, dont judge! haha (minus my mom)
  the blue thing on the left is a really pretty fish
 GROSSSSSSS
 After the aquarium (and problems in the park garage- they weren’t going to let me out!) we headed back to my cousin’s condo, changed into comfy clothes, and ate a million gardetto’s got some pizzas!
….more to come tomorrow!
Question for you:
Would you rather go to an aquarium, museum, or planetarium?
– Aquarium for me!
Taking the train!
Happy Monday everyone! This weekend’s posts included a cake recipe , a november recap, and the posts were all over the place, but there is a reason. I was in CHICAGO!!!!
I sent up some blogs, just to have something because I knew I wouldn’t have time in the windy city. And I was right! It was crazy!!! we were up early, and didn’t go to bed till 11 or 12!
The trip started on Friday at 5:15am!!! (EEEKKK!!!) And it all started w/ the train. My cousin and grandma rode the train, while my mom and aunt drove the van. My grandma wanted to take the train, and it was ALL ABOARD!
We started the morning w/ some pictures and then we were off!
Do I look tired or what!?!? haha
The ride was actually really nice. It just got long towards the end, when we found out my mom and aunt were already in chicago and we still had awhile to go 😦
We got there around one, and got picked up by my cousin Jill who lives in Chicago (which I am so jealous of) and then we were off on more adventures.
…..more to come tomorrow….
