Spring is here! Gardening time

Today, I woke up in a weird mood. Ok. I’m exhausted. I have not been sleeping well at all, but I didn’t let that stop me. So I headed to my home away from home, Home Depot. A few weeks ago, my dad and I took all the plants out of the front yard. It looked amazing just having those dead ugly thorn bushes gone!

I found some pretty plants, and got to planting 🙂

I know it doesn’t look like much, but the before is NOT good. I even had several neighbors tell me how they were glad that those bushes are gone haha. me too!

ugly before

I planted a bunch of perennials. I didn’t want to plant too much each year

I do have a few pots on the front porch and on the deck in the back

I LOVE my new “ace of hearts” redbud back there

Also, I picked up a hibiscus for mother’s day for my mom

I also got the grass cut and trimmed. Lots of time outside, which helped my spirits a lot!

(sorry for the bad pics. all taken from my phone. oh well!)

Question for you:

Do you like to work out in the yard?
Do you grow any of your own fruits, veggies, or herbs?

Diggin’ in the dirt

The past few days have been busy with the preparations for this weekend.

On Friday, Andrew and I will have a very special one year old staying with us for 6 days!

I am beyond exciting, and already have some of his things

This is only part of it haha. I forgot how much room babies take up

My dad and I also tore apart the backyard because this weekend we are putting up a fence

(and by WE I mean my brothers, dad, cousin, and a few of my parents neighbors)

We had to take down the fence, saw the other poles down, and pull up the rock

90 degree weather + a billion degree humidity….I got MIGHTY sweaty

The garage is also filled with stuff (I carried those 80lb bags. I make my OWN crossfit workouts haha)

But of course, I did find these beauties

Question for you:
What is something you are loving lately?

How is your weekend?

Hiding veggies

After yesterdays breakdown, and pick me up, I also made a decision to buy myself flowers.

I know this isn’t a big deal for some, but this made me happy. And sometimes it is the little things

I also found a way to hid some veggies. Bring in the meatballs

Andrew would say that he HATTTTEEESSSSSSSS spinach. Little does he know that I chopped it up, and stuck it in the sauce

And he ate all of it!

My favorite way to add veggies, is the black bean brownies. YUM!

Question for you:

How do you “hide” your veggies?

Mr Flowers

Remember those mysterious flowers I received on saturday? Well. I will tell you what’s been happening.

I haven’t spilled the beans to anyone, until recently. Mainly because it is kindof strange…I haven’t met him yet, only talked.

My friend Chrissy, who has a son in Andrew’s now second grade class, started talking to me about this guy that she knows, lets call him T. At the time, I listened, but he lived in Texas……I didn’t persue anything.

Then, I receive a facebook message from him. I guess she had been talking to him as well. haha

She said, that even if there weren’t sparks. or it wasn’t a match made in heaven, we still had a few things in common. One of those being, we are both parents. She told me that he could just be another support person.

Ok. Lets get to the good stuff. We started talking in May. And since then have been talking everyday since then. Mostly, text messages. T has sole custody of his twin girls who are 4. And just so happen to have the same birthday as Andrew. T also has the same birthday as my dad. Weird.

He DID live in Texas, but now lives in Kansas to be closer to his family. (to all my friends, he does not have a southern accent haha) He works for a company trading stock. That is the most I can tell you, because the rest I don’t understand. I barely passed accounting. haha

Other stats, he is older. 36 to be exact. I just turned 27. He is taller than me 5’10. He drives a volvo. (and knows how to change a flat tire at night, with his two girls, without freaking out. how…I don’t know)

So for my birthday. The flowers. How did I get them from a guy I haven’t even met? Good question. BUT since I talk to him everyday, he knew how stressed I was about the party and getting everything ready.

I told him I still had to get all the food and drinks, buy flowers (yea trader joe’s), and mop the first floor. He asked how he could help. (ummm you live 8 hours away, can you mop the floors haha) He said he would send flowers. I was at work and was like, “OHHH no. You don’t have to do that.” Later, some of my friends nicely told me “Kristen. It is OK for someone to do something nice for you. Something to help you”. ummmm apparently they know me well. Besides my brother completely doing my house, I rarely take help from others. Unless I need it desperately. So I agreed to flowers, and they are beautiful! My house smells amazing!

I also hope I can keep them alive till next week, because T is coming to St Louis. As the teenagers would say, O.M.G.!!!! haha

Question for you:
what was your first EVER date? boyfriend?girlfriend? relationship?

-I first danced with a boy I met at summer camp. His name was Elliot. We were pen pals for a while, but then lost touch. Funny to think about!

The after party

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. Mine was INSANE. there is no other way to describe it.

I worked on Friday, and then Saturday I had my family and friends over for my birthday/ house party.

I LOVEE having people over but it is a ton of work! Especially, when your only helper is 7……

The day of the party started with this…

the handle cameOUT OF THE FRONT DOOR when I tried to open it. I sat on the floor and cried (can you say over stressed! haha)

So I added home depot on my to do list.

Unfortuntly, I didn’t take a lot of pictures at the party. I didn’t even get to eat everything because I was running around talking to everyone!

But I do have AFTER party pictures haha

The kitchen…eek….

Sangria 🙂 Recipe to come!

These flowers arrived………..might need to fill you in on that too…

I got these flowers from trader joe’s

I did get this gift from my younger brother- it was perfect!

The night ended with sangria, sitting outside with friends, and then sleeping in till 8am! wahoO

Question for you:

What did you do this weekend?

Green thumb

When I was growing up, my mom was always planting flowers. Pots, in the ground, in the front and back yards. She even has two trees that have to be brought in every winter (they are named Lucy and Ethel  from I love lucy haha)

Here is a picture of my first shift as a nurse, and you can see the huge flowers in the front of their house!

Now with a house of my own, I have tried to followed in her footsteps.

I am starting very slowly with potted plants 🙂

I even had the master come with me to the flower shop to pick them out! Since the front of my house gets sun pretty much all day we had to pick wisely, but I think we did a great job!

Even Andrew helped put the dirt in the pots.

Andrew wanted to get this little guy from Target, now he just needs a name

I really enjoyed it! I might have to go get some more flowers 😉

Question for you:

Do you have a green thumb? or just enjoy gardening?

Adding little touches

Today, I started the day at teh gym. THANK GOODNESS because I got a call from work about a serious situtation. Afterwards, I jumped on the treadmill and did intervals at a 8.5! I was trying to just wear myself out so I wouldn’t think about it. Well, it worked for a little bit.

I then ran my booty around town. Picking up mouse traps (YUCK), tile for the floor in the bathroom, Curtains to try in the living room, and little odds and ends for the house.

Here they are. They aren’t big, but they had a little something 🙂

More flowers for the living room

New vase and glass for the mantel

Vase for the living room table

Fake flowers for the bathroom

The night ended w/Andrew, a Chipmunk movie, and  ice cream in a tiny baseball cup 🙂

Question for you:

Before and After: Mantel

I love “before and after” shots.

From Fall to Christmas, messing w/ contact paper, I even have a previous mantel before and after.

Today’s isn’t such a big deal, but I LOVEEEEE the after.

I have this picture from pinterest (yup. I love it and yet it gets me in trouble haha)

I found these really pretty flowers at Target, and bit the bullet and bought them for the mantel.

Question for You:

What is on your mantel?

Do you like having flowers around the house?
