Squat workout after surgery

Well it is just a little over 2 weeks since my surgery, and I have been having many ups and downs last week.

One of my limitations, besides not having much energy, is that I can not lift anything over ten lbs. This has been very frustrating for me, because I either have the energy to work out, but can’t, or I am exhausted.

Working out is something that has become apart of my routine. I also feel A MILLION times better after a good workout. Also, the endorphins and muscles help! haha. And I have missed a good sweaty workout

So I had to find a way to get past feeling so down, and stop whining with Squats.

recovery workout

I have never been a fan of them, but they have been the answer to all my prayers this week. I don’t use any weights, and can do them anywhere!

I don’t do too  many, just 20 here and there, but throughout the day they add up! It has also made me feel better, and gets me moving. I find that my mood is MUCH happier, and I don’t feel so lazy. Win. Win.

Question for you:

Would you rather NOT do squats, lunges, or burpees?

How do you get in a short workout?

Weekly Workouts: Balanced Life

What an interesting week.….. Lots of working, and not a whole lot of working out. Darn 12 hour shifts

BUT I did have a lot of fun. FIrst, with hula hoops, grocery shopping and time with my neice and nephew, and of course the Halloween Party.

I have been trying to find a balance between life, work, and Andrew. It is not always easy. And this week was no different. Luckily, I kept my food under check thanks to sparkspeople.com and I didn’t gain any weight.

Sunday: no workout

Monday: 12 hour shift

Tuesday: 12 hour shift

Wednesday: no workout 😦

Thursday: 30  min ellptical + strength workout

Friday: no workout  😦

Saturday: 12 hour shift + 30 min elliptical

Goals this week: Plan workouts and stick to them. Even if they are the dreaded workouts at home. I would rather be at the gym 🙂

Question for you:

What workout did you do this week?

How do you fit workouts in to a busy schedule?

FB Status love

The other day I was talking about a pet peeve I have on facebook. The status of how much you LOVE your dog, cat, husband, kids, house, car, hair, well you get it.

Well, when I was having a bad,  and I was one of those people……..

“Going to have a good day: gym, lunch with the girls, and later a night with Andrew. (ok. Im trying)”

“You know you have an awesome dad when he talks and texts you about boy issues hahaha.

He always has my back and makes me laugh”

  1. Feeling very lucky…

“Ice Age and chocolate covered strawberries and bananas with Andrew. Then bed :)”
So I have decided I am now one of them. I also think I was trying to stay positive and if I say it, then maybe I can foul myself.

    Question for you:

What do you do/say to lift your spirits?

Ridiculous bump in the road

I have an issue.

Today, I was doing so great with keeping my carbs low. According to sparkpeople, the only carbs I had (before dinner) included a banana and peppers for breakfast, and meatballs for lunch.

Then dinner happened. I went out to a family favorite and ordered the buffalo chicken salad

What I FORGOT to say, was I wanted GRILLED chicken, not breaded. darn it.

buffalo chicken salad

So when the plate arrived, I was in a bit of a pickle. Well I ate it, mostly the salad and sent the leftovers home to my dad.

I felt bad, even beating myself over it. Then I realized I can’t ALWAYS be perfect. There are going to be times when I can’t control what is at a party, friend outing, etc. And compared to the troubles of life, this is NOOOO big deal (I was being silly)

Tomorrow I will be back on track 🙂

Question for you:

How do you try to stay on track?

Do you have tricks when you go out to eat , or over to friend’s houses?

Happy News

Today, started with a field trip with Andrew and his classmates to the zoo. Oh man. I don’t think I could be a teacher. I only had five kids in my group, but WOW I’m exhausted haha.

Andrew and I actually left straight from the zoo (skipping the lovely bus ride) to get to his ENT appointment. From November, he was always having ear infections or strep. We finally met with an allergist a few weeks ago, and today we met to talk about if he needs tubes in his ears, or his tonsils out. LUCKILY! We are thinking neither! WAHOOOOOOOOO

She said, we just need to keep an eye on him. I am so happy that at this moment he is doing so well, and hasn’t been sick in two months!

Now to leave you with a pinterest quote

And a found these old photos…..

Question for you:

What is your favorite animal at the zoo?

La Playa wine fixes everything

Our Friday started out by getting Andrew to school, and then I headed to the gym. I ran on the treadmill for 35 minutes, then hit the weights for 30 minutes.

I also solved the mystery of the buff man’s workout. For the past two weeks, I have been going to the gym around 11. And there is an EXTREMELY buff young man who really doesn’t work out. He will do a few reps, then walk around. Then Repeat. Well today I realized he gets there at 8am and is still there at 11. (who has time for that!?!? haha)

Afterwards, my dad changed the oil in my car. While I sipped on coffee, w/ a hint of gooey butter cake from the gas station. I kept myself busy by reading my new book- I’m almost done!

I also noticed that my mom had put this quote on the refrigerator.

It is from The Help. We both watched the movie (I read the book as well. VERY GOOD read if you are looking for one. And the movie wasn’t bad) And it is placed by a good looking fellow 🙂

The rest of the day was spent w/ Andrew and my nephew. Then my sister in law came over, we went to dinner, and drank some wine.

Appropriate? I think so. I defiantly needed to have someone to hang out w/, things have been a little rough.

Anyway, time for bed. a busy weekend ahead!

Question for you:
How was your friday?

What are you doing this weekend? Are you celebrating Mardi Gras?

Valentine’s Day

I hope everyone had a great day full of flowers, candy, and love. I was in the NICU today, but I made sure to make Andrew’s lunch in as many heart shapes as possible haha. And I left him w/ a lightsaber mini w/ M&Ms, activity to build a car, and Star Wars book.

After work, I had a little cry session. (the day started out great- ask me if you wanna know) But by the time I was coming home from work, I was feeling a little lonely.

LUCKILY, I came home to an amazing 6 year old (and my mom), who gave me a card, gift, and chinese food. YUM!

Now I leave you with some of my favorite valentine’s day things- THanks pinterest! (although this holiday is NOT my favorite)

I had some of this yummy stuff at work. Then my belly hurt…..(ps Ive been pretty good at staying away from the sweets)
