Cookie Dough Greek Yogurt

vanilla greek yogurt, 2tbsp PB2 (mix with water), 1 tbsp chocolate chips, splash of vanilla

Getting the house decorations has been sooo exciting! Another item on my list, 1st communion clothes. I haven’t found a dress yet, but I have this for Andrew.

I know this is not a big deal for some, but I ran on the treadmill and didn’t have any knee pain. And I did it because I WANTED TO, not because I HAD TO 🙂

First run of the year

Yesterday, I decided to get my act together and track my food and workouts.

Breakfast: 2eggs, 1 egg white, with peppers and sausage. side of bacon

Gym time: 30 min on the bike, 30 min weights

Morning pick me up: coffee with whipping cream

Snack: Frozen Blueberry, spinach, protein powder, PB2 (1tbsp), and water (green monster with my smart stick!)

Well then. I worked out again. No joke. A few of the moms got together on a BEAUTIFUL 60 degree weather day for a run. My very first of the year. (again no joke)

After the half marathon last year, my knee and ankle were bothering me. I took some time off. Switched back to older shoes. And the 3 mile run was a success! No knee of ankle pain! I also got to catch up with other moms. I swear there is nothing like talking with another mom about your worries, concerns, or frustrations.

The weather, endorphins, and talk made me feel a MILLION times better

Miss Missouri 2013

Hey everyone! sorry I have been MIA. My life has either been SUPER crazy, or includes staying home with a sick kiddo. Nothing to blog about there.

Anyway, a few things while I have been away!

  • I went on a freezing run. And by that I mean, it was 34 degrees, and I had to wear gloves and a long sleeve shirt. Usually when the months get cold, I head indoors to the gym. But I’ve been bored there, and I was stressed. SO a run was in order!!!!

I wore my Rock n Roll tshirt underneath. The only bad news, was my ankle and knee were bothering me again. BUMMER!

  • My cousin was in the Miss Missouri Pageant. She didn’t win, but this was her FIRST pageant. EVER! Her twin sister dared her to enter, and was choosen. She was sponsored by one of the hotels here in St Louis. CRAZY!

  • The big move will MOST LIKELY happen this week. A lot of stress has come from Mr FLowers delayed move. (not his fault. but stress nonetheless)

  • I shared these pictures with my mom, who at 55years old, still is dealing with some NOT SO NICE friends.

Rock n Roll Half Marathon

This past weekend, I completed the 2nd rock n roll half marathon in St Louis and the expo.

So this year, training didn’t go as planned. Well, to be honest it went the total OPPOSITE of planned, considering I was signed up for the full. Oh well

(rewind to sunday)

Tiffany and I woke up MIGHTY early to get so yummy food, get dressed, and on the road! We only had a 10 min drive haha

We walked around trying not to freeze to death (it was a windy 40 degrees!), went to the bathroom, and found Rob and ANgela!! Tiffany was in corral 5 (ms speedy!) while Rob, Angela, and I hung back.

Before we knew it, it was time to get going! I think we stayed together for about a half mile. So it was just me and my IPOD. We are best friends haha. I was actually feeling pretty good. I was wide awake, even my knee was cooperating. I was keeping a 10 min/mile pace. I felt great till about 7 miles.

Then it went down hill a bit….. My left ankle was in A LOT of pain. Running was kindof out. Which was really frustrating, because I have never had to walk before. But I didn’t want to make it worse.

At mile 8, I was feeling better so I told myself, you can run down hill and on flat, but NOT uphill. That seemed to help. (along with texting Tabor and my brother. I needed the emotional support to keep going!)

So I walked. Eventually, I was ok with that. And I finished, which was my goal haha

I mayyy have had a bit of a break down.

I decided it was time for wine while watching the Cardinals game. Then they lost.

I was getting any better, so it was time for the big guns!  Bath, muscle, magazine, and candles (I used the pillow gift you gave me tiffany!)

I hoping the week (and my ankle, knee, hip) have a better week starting today!!!

Change of Plans: Marathon

This morning I did something that I haven’t done in awhile. I went for a run. And you might say, Well Kristen, aren’t you suppose to be running a marathon this weekend?

Well. no.

I decided about two months ago, I just couldn’t make it. With every excuse in the book…..it just didn’t play out

-it was 110 degrees this summer in St louis

-I couldn’t run when Andrew was out of school

– I got sick, etcart

Then I realized, it just wasn’t in my heart.

BUT I am SOOOOO excited that Tiffany, Angela, and Rob will be here on Friday!!!! They are all running the MARATHON!!!!!!!!

So I am just going to stick with the half, the only problem is, my knee is truly giving me problems. It hurts to even walk down the stairs. I am going to ice it, and if I have to walk the half, then Ill walk.

Any reasons why my knee would hurt just after 3 miles??? Maybe the extra 30lbs is finally putting too much pressure on my body 😦

I hope everyone is staying cool! I hear the weather is all hot. hot. and hot. Oh yes, don’t forget the humidity. YUCK. just some random things today!

#1 I received this awesome shirt from Angela. She is so creative. and it is super cute!

#2 Angela and TIffany are my support for the marathon training. They will be running too! I have all my stuff ready to run tomorrow before work. Whether it is inside or on the treadmill

#3 There are two reason I haven’t been able to run outside. Andrew. He is still off school, and he is usually with me 24 hours a day. He doesn’t want to run 9 miles with me haha. And the heat. This is the next week in St louis…….gross

#4 Running outside can be really hard in this heat. I might end up like this…..

#5 Remember how I love to remodel my house? well so do my parents. This is their bedroom.

They actually HAD to tear down the ceiling, it was falling down.

#5 I have not been eating well AT ALL. Way too much left over birthday cake, and pizza tonight for dinner. maybe thats why I feel so sluggish?

#6 I’m also worried about my vitamin D. I am feeling tired in the middle of the day again, and not able to kick the feeling. I am still taking it and will get my labs checked again in a month and a 1/2

#7 The tooth fairy is coming again tonight. Visit #4. Andrew attempted to take a picture of it haha

#8 I love to plan. But then I get overwhelmed.

I had to SERIOUSLY kick myself out the door and put these on

I did NOT want to go running. But I told myself if I did, I could then paint the bathroom! which I was really excited about

The run was ok. I felt fine, but it was SO hot! I just went out for 3 miles. Sometime this week I need to do 6 for the marathon training. But I’m not sure I can make it. I either will have to run before work (at 430 am in the dark, by myself) or at 9am when andrew is at camp (and its a hot humid mess outside) HELP!!!! Or I guess I could do it on the treadmill too

other Bad news, my new camera I got for CHRISTMAS, the lens will not open. So my camera wont work 😦 So I am using my old one

This thing called running…..

Angela, Tiffany, and I started talking about this little thing called a marathon. In November, I signed up and I was actually really excited!!! Now, in June. I’m nervous. What if I can’t do it? Tiffany and Angela are coming all the way to St Louis just to run!

Well yesterday, after MANY emails with Angela, I started to get really nervous. And then I decided I needed a plan. I went to Hal Higdon’s website for a running plan. All the way to October and the MARATHON!  This plan goes all the way up to 20 miles!!! AHHHH WHATTT! The longest I have ever gone is 13.1. now 20 miles…that’s just insane.

I also got a TON of help from Angela who is making her “plan” more about intervals, long runs, and strength training, but not ALL about running. Which has helped a lot because I really don’t like running haha

It is true. If you would ask me to go on a run, I would. But I would much rather be swimming or biking ANY DAY.

So this morning, I knew I needed to get OUTSIDE and run. Lately, I have been doing more intervals on the treadmill. 3 miles later, I was a sweaty mess, but I still felt pretty good.

Then I tackled the bathroom. Remember we are remodeling in there?!?! oh yes. we are in the mudding/sanding phase. I. Hate. This. Part.

I also was sompletely covered in dust. Several hours later, it was time for a shower!

nope I’m not that pale, that is all dust!

So for the marathon training, I am just going to take it one day. one week. at a time.

Pigs can Fly

Last week I did the unthinkable. I think hell froze over and pigs began to fly, because I went running before work!!!!

Now I know to a lot of people, thats not a big deal. To me, its big. Over the past few years, I went from working out in the evenings (ie. when I was in college and didn’t wake up till 11 or later). Nowadays, I have to work out in the morning or for the most part, it won’t get done.

I tried to work out after work, but that didn’t last. After waking up at 5:45, dragging myself out of bed, getting to work, and handing 12 hours in the NICU, well, sometimes energy was short to come by. (and I really hated changing from scrubs to workout clothes, I’d rather be in my PJs haha)

Anyway, back to running. My friend Denise at work gets up every morning before work. She can even get 6 miles in before our 7am shift. I think she gets up at 4 or some unknown hour. Bottom line: she is crazy and AWESOME!!!!!! jk She is an amazing runner, super fast, and even though she has had her fair share of injuries recently, she still seems to love it.

Last week, I put on facebook that I was going to go running at work. Andrew was at my parents for the night, and I just thought, I’m going to do this! Well, it didn’t happen. I got a call at 11pm from my parents, my mom was having a serious asthma attack and they were possibly going to have to use her epi pen and take her to the ER. So no sleep for me.

Then a few days later, I worked with Denise. I told her I was going to go running before work tomorrow. And if I told her I was going, then i would, because I wouldn’t want to let her down.  I went home from work, got everything ready for the next day, and went to bed at 8:45. hahah. yes I’m a grandma and go to bed REALLY early, but the 12 hour days can take it out of you.

 4:55 first alarm goes off. lay back down

4:57 Second alarm goes off. ROLLLLLLLLL my body out of bed and got dresssed.

5:02 Head outside. OH MY GOSH. it is still really dark. I hope no one jumps me

5:03 So where I am going to go? haha.

I ended up making a big loop around my house, sticking to the main streets. It really was dark! I finished almost 3 miles!

5:40 Shower

5:50 Dressed, breakfast (which I usually dont eat before work) and ice coffee- YUMMM

6:10 Time to check some blogs and then makeup

6:20 Off to work!

It really was an awesome experience. And even though I didn’t WANT to get out of bed that early, it felt great during the run and all day I felt alert (except around 5pm, I was ready to go home! haha)

Flu + running kicks

Good news: The little dude is feeling better, no fever, and even made it to school!

Bad news: My mom now has the FLU!!!!!

No joke. I swear, don’t come w/ in 100 miles of St Louis.

Today, I ran to get my mom’s prescription, get her zup, ice cream, popsicles, italian ice, and pudding. She looks pretty rough, so I made sure to keep my distance. And Andrew isn’t allowed over there, because he will get it even if he looks at her haha. But they will be together soon

 

Breakfast was quick and easy. Half a banana and PB, I didn’t want a full belly because I was taking my running kicks to the outdoors!!! It was in the 60s here! AMAZING!

The run was not. Apparently I was thinking it was Spring time and I didn’t bring water w/ me and the park turns the water off in the winter. (damn them) But I still finished 4 miles, while dragging my behind back to my car!

Lunch was amazing! Pizza (I ate the side w/ corn for lunch. And apples for dinner)

Moments after lunch, my sweet tooth hit. But I didn’t have much to choose from. Then I saw the dates- YUM! While watching Ellen

After getting Andrew from school, we both made some smoothies.

Mine: frozen blueberries, spinach, vanilla protein powder, yogurt, milk, and ice.

I also had a bagel thin w/ banana and PB. THen we went and played some b-ball.

After dinner, and putting the little guy to bed. Had some new carrot cake!

This is a Paleo recipe, but I promise you it is good. And I wasn’t starving for more. I had one piece, and that was all I needed!
