Squat workout after surgery

Well it is just a little over 2 weeks since my surgery, and I have been having many ups and downs last week.

One of my limitations, besides not having much energy, is that I can not lift anything over ten lbs. This has been very frustrating for me, because I either have the energy to work out, but can’t, or I am exhausted.

Working out is something that has become apart of my routine. I also feel A MILLION times better after a good workout. Also, the endorphins and muscles help! haha. And I have missed a good sweaty workout

So I had to find a way to get past feeling so down, and stop whining with Squats.

recovery workout

I have never been a fan of them, but they have been the answer to all my prayers this week. I don’t use any weights, and can do them anywhere!

I don’t do too  many, just 20 here and there, but throughout the day they add up! It has also made me feel better, and gets me moving. I find that my mood is MUCH happier, and I don’t feel so lazy. Win. Win.

Question for you:

Would you rather NOT do squats, lunges, or burpees?

How do you get in a short workout?

Crossfit Rowing Workout

This past week, my gym purchased FOUR rowing machines. And they are awesome! I have tried a rowing machine before, but that was probably 6 years ago. The past few times at the gym, I have used it only for ten minutes and the next day felt it in my abs and arms!

This past Friday, I made my own crossfit workout, which was really quite fun!

crossfit rowing workout

I used 15lb weights for these

Here  are the seated twists, if anyone was wondering. I lifted my feet off the ground. And donkey kicks.

Next time, I want to time each set, and try to get faster with each round 🙂

Question for you:

Have you ever tried a rowing machine? Like them, or not so much?

New reebox kicks + weekly workouts

I will be short and sweet with the workouts. I didn’t get much in at the beginning of the week, but at the end I was getting some major booty! And my legs were defiantly feeling it Thursday, Friday, and Saturday! And I lost another 1/2 lb- I’ll take it!

Sunday: day off

Monday: 12 hour shift

Tuesday: 12 hour shift

Wednesday: 30 min bike + circuit workout

Thursday: kickboxing class

Friday: 12 hour shift

Saturday: 60 min spin class

but onto the good stuff……..

A week or so ago, Elf 4 Health had a day where the challenge was Treat Yourself. I had a really hard time with this, because if I get myself something I feel guilty. Even if it is 50 dollars, I feel that the money could go to the house or to Andrew. I even have a better time spending 100s on others and Andrew.

So for this challenge I thought long and hard, and I almost didn’t do it UNTIL shoecarnival.com had a deal online!

I was totally game for that! especially since I needed a new pair. My old ones were REALLY beat up

When they arrived I was so excited to try them out, unfortunately they were too big.

I headed to the store here in St Louis, and they didn’t have them in stock or couldn’t find them online 😦 They must have been a discontinued pair. Luckily, I was able to pick out a new pair from the store!

P1080763(still missing my old ones…..)

On Wednesday, I tried them out for the first time on the bike and then a circuit. On Thursday, I tried kickboxing  and they were awesome. Only problem, is the right is rubbing on my back heel, only a band-aid can fix.

I really am glad I decided to spend the money, I know it was worth it.

Question for you:

What is your favorite pair of workout shoes?

Weekly workouts

Well sorry for being a day late, but this weekend was so nice and relaxing with Andrew, so the last thing I wanted to do was blog. It was nice to take a break away. After a difficult weekend at work, the past weekend was a HUGE blessing.

Even though the week was rough to start, I finally found my groove back into the gym. Let me tell you, after Friday and Saturdays workout, I was finding it hard to lift my arms or sit haha

Sunday: rest

Monday: 45 min elliptical, 15 min bike, and then a 4mile bike ride with Andrew

Tuesday: rest

Wednesday: 30 min elliptical after 12 hours

Thursday: rest

Friday: 15 min bike at the gym then this awesome leg workout

Saturday: 25 min elliptical and this amazing arm workout. Then a 6 mile bike ride with the family. I pulled my nephew on Saturday and my legs were on fire from Fridays workout and pulling over 50lbs haha

Question for you:

What is your favorite body area to workout?

-I would say my arms, least favorite LEGS!

Recipes, workouts, inspiration OH MY

I am taking a little break from the Michigan posts, to share some emails that I have received. Mostly recipes, a great workout, and a REALLY inspirational story about paleo. I know not everyone understands, follows, or gets all the hype, but I just thought I would share!

457b33ff310239da808c11150d7ef6afhaha I swear the recipes are NOT like that!

Ok this isn’t a recipe, but it looks like a good workout!

Need inspiration? Found here! This lady lost 110lbs!!

Question for you:

Do you have any recipes, workouts, or inspiration you wish to share? or that you found?

Crossfit workout and Paleo Pancakes

Yesterday’s workout inspired by crossfit and found on pinterest 🙂

I went for another run on the treadmill! Third of the year…impressive…haha

And it went by so fast!

Today’s workout was a Muscle Works class at gym. I felt sore just walking out of there! Can’t wait till tomorrow..

For dinner, Andrew and I stuck with breakfast: paleo pancakes, sausage links, and strawberries

A heart... and not on purpose

They were SO fluffy, sweet, and delicious. Andrew gobbled right through them

Now time to get the little guy in bed, and stretches for me!!

Question for you:

What is one happy thing that happened today for you?

– Andrew and I made a fort this morning with blankets and pillows

FINALLY a couch

Today was a crazy adventure. Andrew and I visited three Weekends Only furniture stores along with other to dos.

I did make it to the gym, and bike 45 minutes while watching Pride and Prejudice. I couldn’t stop watching!

I think I was suppose to be born in the 19th century...
I think I was suppose to be born in the 19th century…

And immediately thought of Angela. I made myself head to the weights, so I will be taping this at home!

Then Andrew and I finally found a couch!

IMG_1211It might look like I hoard couches

I swear the plaid ones will be leaving tomorrow!

Tomorrow’s busy day…..

  • My brother is also coming over to help with house stuff.
  • Andrew has an Easter egg hunt at the local park.
  • I am going bridesmaids dress shopping with my future sister in law!

Question for you:

What are you doing this weekend?

What was the last movie you watched?

Shift work and home workout

I’m not sure why, but I just can’t seem to shake out of this funk. I think it might be the gloomy weather and the fact that I just want to go outside!!!

Anyway, I wanted to pass along this article I was sent. It talks about shift work, not only working 12 hours, but always working the night shift. I know a lot of my friends work this shift 🙂 It talks about how working “shift work” can change your body, and what we can do help our body stay in a good rhythm (I don’t work the night shift, but I can still take the advice, especially on getting enough sleep!)

This morning Andrew was suppose to have a friend over, I sent a text to push back the time so I could head to the gym. My gym’s child care times drive me INSANE!  The times are Saturday 8-12 and nothing on Sunday. THATS. IT. I know this might not be a big deal to some (without kids, with a spouse, with older kiddos) but its a big deal here. Basically on Sundays, I can’t workout unless Andrew is at a friends, at my parents (I already ask them a ton!), or with his dad. So if the stars align, I will be at the gym on Sundays haha

I found this on pinterest, and I am going to try this tomorrow

The rest of the day, I am going to try and lift my spirits. I’m just not feeling like myself.

(UPDATE: just realized I didn’t take my vitamin D yesterday, I wonder if thats what my deal was yesterday and today)

Question for you:

How do you fit in workouts?

What is your favorite at home workout?

2 WHOLE hours

A few days ago, I discussed my workout dilemma. Well change of plans once again. I am not heading out of town this weekend. I was going to visit Mr Flowers and the girls, but a few things came up. (don’t worry. everything is fine. no worries)

(here is a workout I found online)

So instead, I headed to the gym for the butts and guts class. I wasn’t too happy about the class though.

Here is why:

  • The teacher was new. We started the first 15 minutes basically in a steps class
  • She never counted how many we were doing, or when to actually do the exercise (so we had to watch her constantly)
  • The stretch at the end of class only include our arms (in a butts and guts class?!?! im confused)

I really hate to complain, especially since the classes are included in our membership, but I wanted a good sweat session.

After class, I ran into my friend Annie who was going to zumba. I decided to stay for another hour…..

OHHH zumba. How I have missed you.

And you could tell I haven’t done it in awhile, I was a bit rusty! haha

This is one of the dances we did in class, I had a blast with it!

Question for you:

What is your favorite workout lately? running, zumba, bodypump, crossfit?

what day is it?

Doesn’t everyone just LOVEEEEEEE election day! I was so happy everyone on facebook reminded me to vote haha

(ps. I can’t wait for the calls, and facebook rants to end!!)

My day started with a trip to the gym for muscle works. I was sore before the class even ended. SCORE!

Then it was time to vote!

Or so I thought. It was leaf pick up and street cleaning day. I had to wait for the big trucks to move. I JUST WANNA VOTE!!!

I hope you all voted as well. I don’t care who, or why, or what you voted for, just that you got out there!

Question for you:

Love classes at the gym? or hate them?
